While many of today's Americans are embracing the changes Obama is bringing to the government, there are just as many who loathe his ideas about government and fixing the economy. Almost all (or basically all) Republicans dislike Obama's stimulus plan; Republican Sean Hannity had this to say about it:
"It is...the European Socialist Act of 2009."
Apparently the America of 2009 is moving toward a modern European state. Some even compare Obama and his ways to the president of France, Nicolas Sarkozy.

The complaint here is that the president is doing too much spending in an already troubled economy as well as not focusing on job creation and wasting tax cuts on people who don't pay them. The taxes will basically amount to spending.
So what do you think? Is our government going in the right direction? Will the stimulus bill save America? Will Obama's promises be fulfilled? Are the two presidents similar in your view? Feel free to comment on these issues.

It is interesting to note that the US hates communism. Look back in history, and you will find various instances where the US has basically declared communism as an evil. It is also interesting to note that communism is an offshoot of socialism. Now that the Obama adminsitration seems to be taking steps that are socialistic in nature, the US seems very hypocritical. While socialism and communism have their similarities and differences, a country that says it hates communism really shouldn't be flirting with communism's parent philosphy unless that country declares that communism isn't evil after all.
ReplyDeleteWe believe that communism is an acceptable means to regulate a nation's internal economic affairs. US capitalism is extremely fragile and is founded too much on the success of private interests. We cannot blame the US for utilizing such a delicate economic machine as the Americans simply wanted to create a economy that reflected the traditional American values of self-reliance and self-improvement. Though, the current state of the US economy and the country's past recessions indicate that this quest for economic self-improvement is often done at the expense of others and led by much blind speculation.
It is our hope that the US will find a way to repair its economy. Whether future prosperity lies in the socialist path or capitalist path is up to the American people.
Excuse me, Dillon and Friends, but I beg to differ. Communism and socialism are not two sides of the same coin. Socialism is an economic system in which resources are shared for the common good. Communism, on the other hand, is a political system in which the state controls every facet of the economy and society on behalf of the people (but not really) through a totalitarian state and one-party rule. Socialism is a perfectly acceptable way to regulate the economy, and has been used by many northern European nations for a long time. Communism is a monstrosity that, in both theory and in practice, violates human dignity and human rights. The benevolent, transparent, and well-run regimes of the Soviet Union, North Korea, Cuba, and China (all of which are famous for their respect for human rights) are my evidence for the excellence of the Communist system.
ReplyDeleteIt should also be noted that Obama's actions are not socialist. Notice that nothing has actually been nationalized.
